A talk by a visiting researcher from Georgia. No, the other one, the other one that’s not in the South.

The country of Georgia, located in the Caucasus region, right in between Black and Caspian Seas is the cradle of wine and one of the oldest still spoken languages and alphabets in the world. Hear about the country’s geography, language, culture, overall politics, medieval architecture and the presenter’s research: Historically everywhere in the world the available building material defined types of local buildings and thus the architectural styles. Now, when it comes to the restoration of cultural heritage monuments it is vital to have access to material identical to the initial one. Using geologic techniques the research aims to identify the historic quarries where the building material was once obtained.
