Description

Using incentivized economic experiments we compare and study how individuals from different cultures, i.e. U.S. and Vietnam make reward/punishment decision in a trust relationship and how these decisions change when (1) expectation of reciprocity are violated; (2) expectation are common or private knowledge, and (3) costly punishment or costless punishment. Finally, we use two person trust game to investigate how these decisions subsequently impact trust and reciprocity. This research will advance economic theory and inform policy decisions relating to market failures due to asymmetric information and retribution. It also helps understanding how cultures affect trust relationship to help foster trust and cooperation.
