Description

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays a central role in the lives of university students who own multiple devices and use them constantly. Studies show that technology use affects productivity, stress, sleep and grades; however, the influence of ICT use on self-assessed health and physical symptoms has not been widely studied. This study examined university students’ ICT use and the relationships among technology use, self-assessed health, absenteeism, and physical symptoms. 823 students completed surveys. All students had cell phones and computers; the majority of students engaged in heavy ICT use. ICT use was related to sleep problems, school and work absenteeism, and physical symptoms, but was not related to self-assessed health and self-perceived stress.
