Description

Despite documented benefits regarding the utilization of technology in counseling, it has been underutilized by counselors and other allied health professionals. Even less information is available regarding the professional use of mobile devices. This hands-on workshop examines the utilization of mobile devices, with specific focus on the iPad—both inside and outside of the higher education classroom—and reflects the presenter’s yearlong exploration of the use of iPads and selected apps to creatively enhance teaching, training, social marketing, and individual and group-based wellness promotion strategies. Toward this end, the workshop will revisit the evidence-based Indivisible Self Wellness Model (Myers and Sweeney, 2004) and use it as its conceptual framework. The limitations and caveats of using iPads and apps in this way will also be discussed. Although not required, participants are encouraged to bring their iPad to the workshop.
