Service-Learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities. (Corporation for National and Community Service). The interactive session will highlight faculty colleagues who have recently integrated service-learning methods in their courses. Faculty will share the challenges and opportunities that they have faced in planning for and using service-learning as a pedagogical tool. Participants are invited to bring questions, concerns, ideas and experiences related to the use of service-learning and civic-engagement in their courses. Resource materials will be available to faculty who are considering service-learning and civic-engagement techniques in their teaching and/or are considering applying for an official Service-Learning course designation.
