Event Title

Plenary 3: Faculty Advising: Challenges, Best Practices, and Resources

Location

Moakley Auditorium

Start Time

End Time

13-5-2010 9:45 AM

Description

All full-time faculty at Bridgewater State College advise students as part of our contractual and professional responsibilities. Yet advising remains one of the most underdeveloped, mysterious aspects of our work lives, and can weigh heavily in the academic success or failure of our most vulnerable students. In an effort to improve the overall quality of advising, three faculty members – Ruth Hannon (Psychology); Bjorn Ingvoldstad (Communication Studies); and Stanley Ross (Management)– have been studying the advising process at BSC, exploring best practices and strategies for more effective advising under the auspices of the Project Compass Grant. In this informative, interactive session, these faculty will discuss what they’ve learned, and share with faculty their newly developed Faculty Advising Resource Guide, which will be simultaneously released in online and print versions.
