Description

This research explores the areas of role ambiguity and identity development through the lens of school counselors- and administrators-in-training. There is an abundance of literature exploring these constructs at the practitioners’ level; however, there is a gap in the literature exploring the training level. This research seeks to lessen that gap by exploring the grassroots levels and the perceptions held for school counselors. To assess knowledge of accrediting bodies and the appropriate role of professional school counselors, the researchers disseminated a survey to a regional sample of counselors and administrators-in-training which addressed issues such as role ambiguity and perceptions, professional identity development, and the training process. Preliminary results will be shared providing suggestions and implications for best practices. Findings will assist to inform clear direction for ways in which counselor educators and practitioners can collaborate to address these areas.
