Description

As BSC graduate education has expanded, the educational needs of graduate students have become more clearly defined. Issues of equity, addressed in undergraduate education by Project Compass, are also present at the graduate level but without the same institutional support. To better support these and all students, the MSW program partnered with the Office of Teaching and Learning, Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Program, and Academic Advising Center to implement a graduate writing fellows (GWFs) program. GWFs are MSW students trained by the WAC coordinator in providing peer feedback on writing-in-progress for their graduate courses, a process that builds on the writing knowledge of the GWFs and the students they work with. This presentation focuses on the program’s implementation and results after one full year, as well as additional models of GWF programs that may prove useful to departments wishing to start such a program to support graduate student writing.
