Event Title

Poster: Soil Restoration and Soil Carbon in Central Spain

Location

Moakley Atrium

Start Time

16-5-2007 3:00 PM

End Time

16-5-2007 4:30 PM

Description

Soils in many semi-arid agricultural areas are at high risk of degradation due to a combination of environmental factors that may be further compounded by social and political conditions. The same soil management practices that help reduce soil degradation have also been shown to increase levels of soil organic matter. This added benefit associated with soil restoration could provide motivation to include agricultural land managers in national and regional policies aimed at reducing atmospheric CO2. The Roth-C soil carbon cycling model and field data were used to estimate soil carbon levels for cultivated and abandoned land management types.
