Contributing to Their World: How Students are Creating Enduring Course Artifacts

Reid Kimball, Bridgewater State University
Eric LePage, Bridgewater State University
Tim Wenson, Bridgewater State University

Description

Students will leave a course with some new found knowledge and perspective, but they do not always contribute knowledge or creative endeavors to the world around them. However, new academic initiatives through the use of social media are changing that. Psychology students in institutions across the world are taking part in the APS Wikipedia Initiative, which seeks to strengthen and build on articles in Wikipedia. Other students are creating social news stories in Storify and contributing to focused blogs that incoming students build upon each ensuing semester. In this session, discover new ways to encourage students to create living artifacts that endure past the duration of the course.
