Frank Tenney Johnson
Wallace L. Anderson Gallery, Bridgewater State University
Two years ago the Town of Bridgewater discovered a painting in one of the administration buildings; it was a Frank Tenney Johnson oil on canvas of a “Trooper on Guard.” The painting in co-operation with the Vose Gallery in Boston, was restored and is now being overseen by the Anderson Gallery for the Town of Bridgewater. In honoring the stewardship of the town in keeping this painting, the Anderson Gallery will present “The Western,” an exhibition that brings together several other paintings by Johnson; “Southern Night” from the National Academy Museum, “Untitled (Cowboy on Horse)” from the New Jersey State Museum and “A Morning Shower” from the Rockwell Museum of Western Art. Also on display are sculptures from another famous artist, Frederic Remington.
