Description

Bridgewater Firehouse, circa 1883. A steam fire engine, the Silsby No. 6, is parked in front of the building. At the time, firefighting was not a service provided by the town of Bridgewater, but rather by a private (and voluntary) organization, the Bridgewater Fire District. The town-run fire department was established in 1894.
