The Department of Archives and Special Collections at the Clement C. Maxwell Library serves Bridgewater State University (BSU) and the public by preserving and making accessible the historic memory of the University and of Southeastern Massachusetts. Archives and Special Collections shares in BSU’s mission to educate the residents of Southeastern Massachusetts and the Commonwealth, and to use its resources to support and advance the cultural life of the region and the state. A core focus of the collection is the history of education, reflecting Bridgewater’s founding in 1840 as the third state Normal School in the nation.
